Demune is a combination of 4 underground masterminds - Mole, Orphan, Mattr, and Ancient Mith - and it shows. Spoken word, anthem style lyrics overlay beats and rhythms that contain a very dark and almost supernatural feel make up most of the album. The samples, beats and overall production bring only one name to mind - Doseone. While the lyrical style reminds me of a morbidly twisted version Darc Mind, and Beans. Of course it’s hard to really pinpoint any particular style for this album because it’s so varying that you really need to just sit back and enjoy the ride. While it’s not an overwhelmingly abstract album, I will admit that I was fairly relieved when the track changed and “A Ceilings Observations” came on, offering a much more organized lyrical forefront over some intellectually smooth break beats.
All in all, this is a very original, very intense album that will surely expand your ability to absorb varying styles of independent hip-hop. It was a learning experience even for me, although I wasn’t at all surprised to find out that this album was released under the same label that released rushYA’s “Modern Day McCarthy” album. Keep putting them out Ponowai.
word… Great review thank you!
But Demune is a single performer, and guests on the album include Mole, Ancient Mith, Orphan, and Mattr.
Demune the single man produced about half of the album and wrote and performed a great majority of the lyrics.
Demune is greatly inspired by the likes of Dose one. Thank You for that… I even do covers of his verses…
